Wood table, designed by Staffan Holm
STAFFAN HOLM ON THE DESIGN “I wanted the table to have an organic expression and to combine a structural solidity with a seemingly more delicate balancing act. The detail of the legs being split and bent has the expression and quality of a skilled cabinet-maker and is likely to become a hallmark of the Split Table.”
STAFFAN HOLM is a Swedish designer based in Gothenburg, Sweden, working with interior architecture, industrial design and furniture design. His work has a strong focus on quality and craftsmanship combined with a human aspect. His designs have recently won several prestigious design awards around Scandinavia.
STAFFAN HOLM ON HIS DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
The studios most important pursuit is to create projects that touch and engage with design that has one foot in tradition and the other breaking new ground. The most important part of the design/architecture philosophy is that really great design newer is all about practical functions but much more the emotional ones.
STAFFAN HOLM ON NEW NORDIC DESIGN
It seems that New Nordic is a revolt against the manufacturing friendly simple minimalism that has dominated Scandinavian design the latest part of last century. Form follows function just isn’t enough anymore and New Nordic is an approach to design with focus on emotional functions that is typical for contemporary Nordic designers.
